Digital Photography Workshop Series

Adobe Lightroom Boot Camp – A Comprehensive Two-Day Introductory Course
Saturday – Sunday, March 3-4, 2012
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Saturday
9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Sunday
This beginner-level workshop explores the possibilities of a new software program that has revolutionized digital photography workflow and production.

Adventures in DSLR Photography II: Mastering Landscape Photography with Emphasis on the Azaleas at Callaway Gardens
Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1, 2012
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Sunday
This intermediate-level workshop focuses on the technical and artistic demands of landscape photography during a season when Callaway Gardens’ world-renowned azaleas are typically at their peak.

Adventures in DSLR Photography I: Mastering Close-up and Macro Photography with Emphasis on the Butterfly
Saturday – Sunday, April 21-22, 2012
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday

This intermediate-level course is devoted to exploring the unique technical and artistic demands of close-up macro photography, and includes a private shoot at the Day Butterfly Center.

Herbaceous Plant Propagation: Making More Plants for your Garden
Saturday, March 10, 2012 OR March 17, 2012, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
You’ll be the envy of the neighborhood when you bring home enough plants to fill your Summer garden with plants not found in your local garden center. In the morning, learn the skills of the trade by sowing seeds and taking cuttings from the plants seen in the displays at Callaway Gardens. After a short lunch break (on your own), join Brian Kanotz for a private tour of the Callaway Gardens’ Greenhouses.

Planting your Season Vegetable Garden
Saturday, April 21, 2012, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden Manager, David Chambers, is truly a vegetable garden guru. David has been gardening for years and knows what works and what doesn’t. He will share his extensive knowledge on the best Spring and Summer crops.

Spring Watercolor Painting
Saturday – Sunday, April 21-22, 2012, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day
Paint on location in the Gardens from direct observation of nature. You will focus on painting flowers from a close up view as well as on flowers in a garden setting. Class includes demonstrations, instruction, critique and individual coaching. All levels of painters welcome.

Special 3-Day Plein Air Painting
April 23-25, 2012
If you love to paint gardens and other spectacular outdoor settings, don’t miss this three-day workshop. Our 13,000-acre woodland Gardens feature shimmering lakes, one of the world’s largest azalea displays, an award-winning butterfly conservatory and much more – all inspirational scenes for a Plein Air artist. The workshop will be taught by renowned Plein Air artist Roger Dale Brown. He will explain and demonstrate the techniques and compositions of the masters, helping participants develop their own work using value, temperature and color.

Fee: $395 per person (maximum of 15 participants)


Pine Needle Basket Making
Saturday, April 28, 2012, 10 am – 4 pm
Learn how to use pine needles to make a basket with coil basketry techniques. This beginner class covers the basic skills needed to make the basket. You will make a basket reflecting your own taste and design. Bring a lunch or purchase at the Discovery Café. Supplies are included.

Gemstones & Freshwater Pearls Jewelry Design and Making
Saturday, May 5, 2012, 10 am – 2 pm
Choose from a variety of gemstones and freshwater pearls along with silver and copper beads to arrange in a pattern for the perfect combination. Each necklace will be custom designed to fit the owner (max 20” length).

Hikes
Guided hikes are great opportunities to learn more about natural history! Hikes offer a variety of topics, terrain and time spent on the trails. Hiking trails are not paved; rocky and steep in some sections – appropriate footwear required. Wear sturdy hiking boots and pack a light lunch and plenty of water for the trail.


Spring Wildflower Walk in the Preserve
Saturday, March 31, 2012, 10 am - 2 pm
Join this naturalist-led trek through the Callaway Preserve in search of early Spring wildflowers. We'll look for signs that Winter is finally gone!
Length: 2-3 miles; easy to moderate; ages 12 and up

March 22-25, 2012
The Annual Plant Fair and Sale scheduled for March 22-25, 2012, offers approximately 19 vendors bringing a wide variety of plants and unique garden items. This offers exceptional shopping under one roof.


Callaway Gardening School with Erica Glasener
March 22-23, 2012
Join horticulturist, author, and design expert Erica Glasener for an informative and enjoyable learning experience. Thursday, March 22, is a day-longLandscape Design Workshop. You can be one of the early-birds at the Plant Fair and Sale as well. On Friday, March 23, Glasener offers an inspiring garden lecture, followed by a Q&A Session including other gardening experts. You can spend the afternoon shopping at the Plant Fair and Sale.

Beginner or a seasoned gardener, you’ll take-home information to ensure that your garden will be the envy of friends and neighbors.
