Mayan Medallion Exhibit at Children's Museum of Atlanta!

Last weekend we packed up the three musketeers and headed to the Children's Museum of Atlanta to check out their newest exhibit: Mayan Medallion. Now, I am probably dating myself horribly here but when I first heard the name of the exhibit, my mind went back to the glory days of the show Legends of the Hidden Temple. You remember the game show with the giant stone face (Olmec) and different physical and mental challenges? Yeah, it was my favorite.

Of course, the Mayan Medallion exhibit was a blast too! Based in an archaeological dig site in Palenque, Mexico, you are recruited to help find a priceless jade medallion. The original team left behind valuable information in the archaeology, biology and astromathematics field stations that they constructed. Student Archeologists must uncover the mystery of the dig site and find the priceless treasure.

My bigger two boys had a blast checking out all of the different "tents" set up for them to explore.

The archaeology tent had different ways for them to learn the science and work behind the profession of archaeology. The observatory had a puzzle of sorts for them to learn about Mayan symbolism. The astromathematics tent helped them learn how the Mayans kept time. Last but not least the biology tent had stations for them to examine all kinds of bugs and critters from the Mayan jungle!

We spent a good hour discovering and learning lots of things about the Mayan culture. The hieroglyphics station was my personal favorite but I think the boys like looking up close at the bugs!

Of course while we were there we spend some time exploring the rest of the museum as well. The sand table, painting station, and climbing tower were the biggest hits for us but there is so much more to explore! Truely a wonderful place for kids to go to learn, play, and explore!

Located at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30313, the Children's Museum of Atlanta will have the Mayan Medallion exhibit on display now until May 31st, 2016. You can buy tickets upon arrival but in order to skip the line, I would highly recommend buying tickets online!

Have you checked out the Children's Museum of Atlanta? What was your favorite part?

Our Adventure at the Georgia Renaissance Festival

*I was provided passes to visit and review the Georgia Renaissance Festival but all opinions are my own. Photo credit goes to Ga RenFest.

This past weekend we took a little trip down to Fairburn, Georgia to attend opening weekend of the Georgia Renaissance Festival! Of course we had not seen the sun in a little over a week, so it was a little soggy but it was business as usual around the festival

The first show we decided to check out was the Hypnotist show on the Half Wit Harbor stage. The certified hypnotherapist, stage hypnotist, and comedian, Rick Stratton has been traveling the United States for 15 years making people laugh while performing his comedy hypnosis show and this show was no exception! It was a little slow for the kids but was a lot of fun for all the adults in the audience. After that we were entertained by the infamous Ded Bob, The Washing Well Wenches, and of course the highlight of the day, the Jousting Tournament!

After that we wandered around checking out all of the artists booths and oogling the beautiful jewelry, glass blowing, leather crafting, and so much more. There is a little something for everyone in the artist market including the kids! The boys had a blast trying out all the soft, foam swords and I loved looking through the names at the Ancestors Family Name Histories booth.

There are also a lot of kid friendly activities for the kids to enjoy. Be sure to bring some extra cash for all the games and rides they have available. They all cost between $2 and $5 apiece. There is also a playground that is free in the King's Highland area for the kids to blow off a little steam between shows.

The part I was most looking forward to though was the food! Oh, the food! Michael enjoyed one of the legendary turkey legs and I had one of the sausage and pepperoni meat pies I remembered from the last time I went. You can get all kinds of foods "on a stick" also which makes exploring and eating at the same time a little easier. Then you can wash it down with a soda or beer! There are a couple of sit down type places to eat too but I've always found them to be too crowded.

If you are looking for something to do as a family this weekend (or any weekend between now and June 7th), you need to check out the Georgia Renaissance Festival. You can save a little money by purchasing a ticket combo pack online or at the gate and if you are a student, check out the student days activities for a little extra enrichment! Of course you can always buy your tickets at the gate the day of the festival too!

Blue Man Group Takes Over the Fox Theater

*I was provided two tickets to opening night in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.

Last night D and I headed down to the Fox Theater to check out opening night of the Blue Man Group! I had seen them once before and I just knew that D was going to absolutely love it. They did not disappoint! He was laughing so hard that the people around us started laughing at him laughing at the show. It was that infectious cackle that you only hear when someone is truly enjoying something.

The Low Down:

Its a show that is difficult to describe to someone that has never had the pleasure of seeing it live. Its part rock show, part sitcom, part dance party and never fails to have everyone in the audience moving in their seat and shaking their "sit-biscuit". The show is officially 3 and up but D is 7 and I would say he is probably the perfect age for his first Blue Man Group show. The show runs 90 minutes and there is no intermission. Of course its more than enjoyable for "kids" of all ages and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to let loose and have some fun!

When & Where:
Blue Man Group is in Atlanta April 7th - April 12th at the fabulous Fox Theater. Show times are generally 7:30pm but be sure to check the schedule and find the time and date that works best for you!

My Favorite Part:
Its hard to pick just one part that sticks out. I guess I would say the parts where they pull an audience member onstage for a little good hearted fun is pretty high up there though. The crowd favorite always seems to be the crazy dance party at the end. The whole show ramps up and gets you in gear to have some fun and rock out!

Our Scaly Slimy Spectacular Sleepover at Zoo Atlanta

Last weekend we had the chance to sleep at the Zoo! We went to check out the newest and the biggest exhibit in Zoo Atlanta’s history: Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience.

We had a blast checking out the zoo after hours and getting a guided tour of both the old and new reptile exhibits. A lot of the animals are still in transition to their new homes so this way we got to see them all! We got to do a meet ad greet with an alligator and a snake and even got to use night vision goggles to check out the Red Panda sleeping in her nest! After our tour and a quick snack, we spent the night sleepover style and got up to explore the zoo the next morning.

The Low Down:

  • Built to replace the old World of Reptiles exhibit, the Scaly Slimy Spectacular invites you to explore Earth’s magnificent natural wonders with an introduction to the creatures and ecosystems that make our planet’s wild places irreplaceable.
  • The $18-million complex is the result of 18 months of construction. The old World of Reptiles building is the oldest building on Zoo grounds still used for public exhibits. Construction on the World of Reptiles began in 1964, and the venue opened to the public in 1967.
  • The project is approximately 14,000 square feet in size. Featuring The aquatic animal habitats channel some 60,000 gallons of water and around 9,700 square feet of custom-designed rockwork. It will be home to more than 70 species!
When & Where:
  • Zoo Atlanta hours vary by season and day. The best way to get up to date information is by clicking through to their website. The Scaly Slimy Spectacular opens to the public in April 2015 and will be open the same hours as the rest of the zoo.
  • Zoo Atlanta is located at 800 Cherokee Avenue, S.E. Atlanta, GA 30315 and is easily accessible off I20 in the Grant Park area.
Admission:
  • Admission is available in advance online or at the gate:
  • Adult (ages 12+) - $22.99
    Child (ages 3-11) - $17.99
Child ages two & Under - FREE
  • There are varying discounts available including military, senior, and student but my favorite is the City Pass letting you choose to visit as many Atlanta attractions as your heart desires all at a great discount!

#FestivalOfTheSEAson at @GeorgiaAquarium

Yesterday morning we had the chance to join Georgia Aquarium in waking the big man himself, Santa Claus, from his long winter's nap! Turns out that an icy cold blast from a hundred or so snowballs is all it takes!

A video posted by Amy (@rendermemama) on

Of course while we were there, we stuck around for the Festival of the SEAson! We all know the holidays are not just about checking off items on a wish list. For many parents, crossing off the list of annual moments can be an overwhelming fete.

Georgia Aquarium’s Festival of the SEAson creates a magical atmosphere where families can find the experiences they are seeking and get back to the reason for the season. Opening on Saturday, November 22, this annual event marks the limited-time return of offerings that have become tradition for many families in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast. Here are five exceptional experiences visitors can cross of their list during this month-long celebration at one of the world’s largest aquariums.

1. Capture Classic Photos With Santa

Break away from the mundane mall photo and capture the annual classic with a seaside St. Nick. Whether you are posting it for all of social media to see or sending to the grandparents, an iconic photo with Santa at Georgia Aquarium will provide a unique experience.

2. Treasure Family Traditions

Holiday traditions are essential, and there is a reason why we have kept them as a part of our lives for so many centuries. Simply put, they add meaning to our lives and enhance a sense of belonging. In the heart of downtown Atlanta, guests can create new traditions during Festival of the SEAson, come face-to-face with Santa as he dons his SCUBA Claus wetsuit plunging into one of the world’s largest aquatic habitats and experience the holidays at surrounding parks and attractions.

3. Create Magical Moments

Santa is tired from his long journey from the North Pole. Kids will laugh, sing and even participate in a snowball fight in an attempt to help the Elves Wake Up Santa and get the holidays started. For a limited time this holiday season, fantasy meets reality as the Weeki Wachee Mermaids grace guests with their holiday-themed, underwater showcase accompanied by meet and greet with story time and photo opportunities.

4. Check A Few Names Off The Christmas List

Take the stress out of holiday shopping and give a gift with a wow factor. A memorable animal encounter, adopt a whale shark or choose from holiday and animal-themed selections in two onsite gift shops. Access around-the-clock shopping in your PJ’s at Georgia Aquarium’s online

5. Revel in Holiday Lights and Seasonal Songs

Every hour, Georgia Aquarium transforms into a winter wonderland with the Holidazzle light show. Classic tunes fill the atrium for all to sing along. New this year, a Symphony of Snow parade will surround and delight guests with renditions of their favorite holiday classics every

For more information regarding the dates for the Festival of the SEAson celebration visit georgiaaquarium.org or call 404-581-4000.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2014, Cirque du Soleil brings a new show to Atlanta! Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Virgin Wireless Custom "Make it Yours"

I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Influence-Central for Sprint. I received a device to facilitate my review.

Its crazy to think that 15 years ago cell phones were a commodity. Not something that every one had or even really wanted to have. Who wanted to be reachable 24/7??

Flash forward to 2014 and cell phones arent just an accessory,  they are a necessity! We are on the go more and more and being able to stay in touch with our families and friends has become much easier than it ever has been. The problem is there are so many options out there it can really make your head spin!

One of the options that people are turning to more and more is prepaid wireless. Prepaid offers no contracts and no commitment to a phone or carrier which is a win in any book! The new Custom line from Virgin wireless, allows you to customize your plan as needed, even during the service month!

Not needing as many minutes but need more data than you had planned for? Custom makes it super easy to transfer the money to a different area, making it truely their most versatile phone service available!

Custom also offers unlimited music streaming for only $5/ month, plus unlimited social media, unlimited youtube, and others as add on services for a very low price.

Custom is really ideal for the preteen and teen crowd also because of the parental control built in. You can choose to shut down certain areas like Facebook or texting during certain hours or you can set it to only allow apps to be available for certain amounts of time! No more teens texting all night and sleeping during class!

There are three phones available on the Virgin Custom plan and they are sold exclusively at Walmart. I received the LG Pulse to try out and its an impressive little machine! It feature Gorilla Glass (hello durability!) and a 5mp camera for all those Instagram moments.

Have you made the switch to Prepaid wireless? What do you think of Virgin's Custom plans?

ScoreBig.com: Save on Events and Attractions!

I was invited last week by ScoreBig.com to check out the website and share my experience. I have to admit, I had personally never heard of it. ScoreBig.com enables consumers to get great tickets for live sports, concert and theater events at guaranteed savings of up to 60%. Customers are invited to bid on tickets and never pay any fees on their tickets.

My first visit went amazingly smooth! If you've ever bought tickets to an event online, especially through a discount site, you know what a pain it can be. You can spend a lot of time and energy looking for the perfect seats only to lose them to time outs or end up paying huge fees for the privilage. ScoreBig.com was not like that.

I was able to quickly find the local Atlanta site by allowing it to find me by GPS and it showed me the top events right at the top of the page. It was easy to find the show I wanted to attend and once I picked the date that worked for me, the tickets were split up by section.

Each section was clearly marked on a map of the venue so I knew where the seats would be in relation to the stage before I bid. It does not give you a specific seat location though. So if you are picky about where you sit and are looking to book a more specific seat location, this might not be the site for you.

Once I had my section and date picked, all I had to do was place my bid and click to place it! It tells you immediately if your bid was accepted or not so there isnt any waiting but if your bid is accepted, it will charge your credit card immediately. So be sure you can handle the amount you bid. Of course if your bid is rejected, your card will not be charged.

A couple of importants notes to remember before you bid:

  • This isn't ebay. Dont under bid to the point you know its low ball. There is a handy little scale that pops up under the space you enter your bid that gives you an idea how far off base your bid might be.

  • If your bid is not accepted, you will be locked out of bidding on that seating section for 24 hours. You can choose a different section to bid on immediately but you cant bid on the same section more than once a day, meaning your first choice could sell out. This happened to me twice!

  • Tickets may be either emailed, mailed, or held at will call depending on the event. Be sure you enter your email and mailing address correctly to ensure prompt delivery!

Overall, the site was super easy to use but I didn't actually end up saving but about 20% on the tickets I chose. They are listed at $92.50 on Ticketmaster and I paid $72.50 on ScoreBig.com. That doesnt include any fees or taxes that other sites charge though, so the savings would still be higher overall. Plus, the concert I got tickets for are in big demand, so it's probably a miracle I got them at all.

ScoreBig.com had a good variety and forthe price I paid, I would definitely check them first next time I'm in the market for event tickets! Their selection changes all the time too so what may be there today might be gone tomorrow. So, go check it out and get bidding!

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is Now Open!

Its no secret that Summer in Atlanta gets hot. Hot and sticky with very few breezes. Of course that means we are always looking for ways to cool off and relax. A way to make the Summer a little less brutal.

This year, one of Atlanta's favorite places to hang out and have some thrilling family fun is also the newest place to have some water fun! Six Flags Over Georgia opened its Hurricane Harbor attraction this Summer! With over 7 new acres dedicated to Hurricane Harbor it is sure to have something for everyone.

For starters, Calypso Bay is a 38,000 square, zero entry wave pool second to none. Stay at the entry and enjoy the waves gently lapping at your toes or brave the true surfside experience closer in. The boys had a blast splashing and jumping in the waves that were just their size around the middle of the pool. They even provide the life vests for the less aggressive swimmers and tubes for lazy floating.

Then there are the two new water slides for those that crave a little more of an adrenaline rush! Tsunami Surge is the worlds first zero gravity hybrid slide, which drop kicks you down five stories, swirls you around, and gives you that weightless feeling that is both terrifying and fun at the same time. Then there are the Bonzai Pipelines with 180 and 360 degrees turns which you can ride solo or with a friend.

For the smaller ones in your life, be sure to check out the Paradise Island attraction. With slides for everyone from the most adventerous tots to the slightly more cautious, this is a structure with a whole of opportunity. Rope ladders, spray guns, and huge water buckets dumping galore, my boys had a blast exploring all the different levels and slides.

My biggest tip for those going with kids would be to invest in some water shoes. The concrete gets hot between the attractions and running around on it all day can leave sore tootsies! I would also plan on renting a locker to store your dry clothes, cell phones, etc so you arent worrying about them while enjoying the fun. I was pleased to find they were generously sized!

If you are planning a trip to Six Flags over Georgia this year, definitely be sure to make time for some water adventure at Hurricane Harbor. It definitely adds to the experience and gives you the chance to cool off and relax between roller coasters!

*I was invited to the Grand Opening Celebration and given tickets to return another day for my review of Hurricane Harbor but all opinions are my own!

Mosaic Photo Book App: Quick, Inexpensive Photo Memories

When was the last time you took an actual camera with you every where you went? I know for me, its been years. Most of the moments I have captured, have been with a cell phone camera. Ever since I got my first smartphone, where I could easily share pictures with a couple of buttons, I haven't taken the big camera out near as much.

Problem is, I also don't get most cell phone pictures printed and organized into books or frames any more either. One look at the pictures in my hall way and you will see that its been a minute.

Then, I got an email from the people at Mixbook last week offering to let me review their new app Mosaic. Mosaic is an iPhone and Android app that allows users to effortlessly create a 20-page photo book in 5 minutes for only $20, and delivered to your doorstep in 4 days. It uses the
called
photos on your phone and prints them with insanely good quality in a 7" square book. It sounded too good to be true.

I downloaded the app and was surprised at how quick and easy it was to create my photo book. All I did was pick the photos I wanted to use, chose if I wanted a black or white background on the pages, and then complete the order! It seriously took less time than it would have to print the pictures at the store.

Once ordered, my photo book was on my doorstep in exactly 4 days. I opened it up and was immediately pleased. They take the time to properly box and protect your photo book. Like a ready to give gift. The quality of the images was surprising to me too. I used all Instagram photos but you can use regular shots too.

If you are looking for an easy way to create a memory of a special occasion or a quick, cheap gift for the grandparents, Mosaic is definitely the way to go.

To download the Android or iPhone app, check the app store on your phone or just go to the Mosaic website and they will connect you with the right place.

New Mini Indulgences Desserts at Seasons 52!

Seasons 52, the fresh grill and wine bar restaurant, just got a little sweeter with the introduction of new Mini Indulgence desserts, including a range of permanent and seasonal offerings. Inspired by the fresh appeal of the farmer’s market, Seasons 52 uses ingredients at the peak of ripeness to highlight what’s good now. Through rustic cooking techniques like oak-fire grilling and brick-oven roasting, Seasons 52 creates dishes that are naturally lighter with a promise that no menu item is more than 475 calories!

The new selection of mini desserts includes Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte, Belgian Chocolate S’more and Blueberries & Lemon Curd, as well as seasonal flavors including Toasted Almond Amaretto Crunch, Butterscotch Budino with Salted Caramel and Bing Cherry Crème Brulee. Seasons 52 will offer nine different Mini Indulgence options with a changing selection so guests can always discover something new.

The decadent Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte begins with chocolate cake baked in-house. The rich cake is layered with chocolate sauce, peanut butter mousse and chocolate peanut crunch, then garnished with a tuile – a housemade peanut crisp.

The Belgian Chocolate S’More is Seasons 52’s take on the classic campfire treat. This new Mini Indulgence features chocolate cake layered with chocolate mousse and chocolate chips, then topped with a toasted marshmallow and a chocolate dipped graham cracker.

The new Fresh Blueberries & Lemon Curd mini features vibrant, creamy lemon curd slow-cooked in-house at Seasons 52. The curd is mixed with blueberries, topped with whipped cream, and finished with a sprig of Chervil.
I got a chance to check out the new desserts last night and let me tell you, I was blown away! Of course the S'mores was my personal favorite. The chocolate/ marshmallow / graham cracker ratio was just right. It made for the perfect ending to a delicious, but not overwhelming meal! Plus, all mini indulgences are prepared fresh daily in-house and you can really taste the difference.

The full assortment of mini indulgences is available now at Seasons 52. For more information, please visit Seasons52.com.
